Analysis:

Last season in a close game Clemson beat Georgia by 3 points, but the main reason the Bulldogs will win this home opener is RB Todd Gurley. Gurley is getting Heisman buzz in the pre-season and with good reason. Last season he rushed for over 900 yards, sharing the rushing duties, and averaged over 6 yards per carry. Facing Clemson last season he rushed for 2 TD and over 150 yards on only 12 carries.

Clemson does have some returning players to their D that ranked 24th last season, but their front line D will not be able to keep Gurley and company from racking up the yards on the ground.

Clemson was led by their offense last season, but they lost their starting QB, their leading rusher, and their top 2 WR’s. Not only that, but their leading returning rusher was lost for the season with a foot injury. Georgia’s defense is not a dominant one, but they will be better than last season, when they ranked 79th in the nation, and will play well facing a Clemson offense that will have growing pains with many new starters in the skill positions.

Andy Murray is gone from Georgia, but they have a solid senior QB in Hutson Mason. He could have left school to get more playing time somewhere else, but the Georgia boy decided to stay home and his senior leadership will help guide the offense. While Clemson lost their 2 top WR’s Georgia returns a couple of legit playmakers in Michael Bennett and Chris Conley.

Georgia’s offensive line has some key returning players and that is key in this game facing Clemson’s defensive star in Vic Beasley. At home last season Beasly was a beast in the backfield all game long and had 2 sacks, but the UGA O-line will make sure he does not repeat that performance.

Final Thoughts: Georgia has more key returning players with the one big one being Gurley. He will have another great game like last season facing the Tigers and Georgia will win this game and cover the 7.5-point spread.
